Mock Trading
Practise buying and selling with fake money. No real money is ever involved.
What this is — and isn't
A safe sandbox to test how a portfolio behaves before risking actual money. Useful for learning how the ratings change after you buy, how P&L moves day-to-day, and trying out strategies without consequences.
This is not connected to any real broker. The trades you make here don't open positions anywhere — they only live on your device.
How it works
Setting your budget
Pick a starting amount — pretend money you'd be comfortable investing for real. You can change currency between £ and $.
The amount you choose becomes your starting cash. As you buy stocks, cash goes down and your holdings value goes up.
Buying and selling
Tap the gold Buy button to pick a stock from your watchlists or browse the full list. Type a number of shares (or use the slider) and confirm.
To sell, tap any holding on the dashboard — the same sheet opens with a Sell tab.
Spread + fee (kept realistic)
Every buy or sell adds a small spread (the gap between buy and sell prices, like at a real broker) and a flat £3.99 fee per trade.
These are deducted from your portfolio just like real brokerage costs — so your P&L reflects what would actually happen if you traded for real.
Reading the dashboard
Total portfolio value
The big number at the top: your cash + the current market value of every holding. Green when you're up, red when you're down — relative to the budget you started with.
Cash / Holdings / Realised P/L
Cash: pretend money you haven't invested yet. Holdings: current value of stocks you own. Realised P/L: profit or loss locked in from stocks you've already sold (vs unrealised P/L, which is on stocks you still hold).
The holdings list
Each row shows what you bought, the current value, and how much you're up or down. Tap a row to open the full card or to sell.
History
Every trade you've made — buy, sell, with timestamp and price. Useful for checking what you actually paid versus what the price is now.
Resetting
The small Reset mock account link at the bottom wipes everything — budget, holdings, history — so you can start fresh. There's a confirmation step so you can't reset by accident.
Important
Mock trading uses live prices but the trades are pretend. Returns shown here don't reflect a real broker, real taxes, real slippage or real outcomes. Don't extrapolate. Full disclaimer →
